Julie Donald – Music Teacher

Hi, my name is Julie Donald, however nobody calls me Julie it is always ‘Jools’.

I have been a private music teacher for over 25 years and I am based in the Carrington/Sherwood area of Nottingham. I am fully CRB checked and teach children from the age of 4 upwards throughout to mature students. Students come to me for lessons.

I have lots of experience within the music industry and first started out working at the old Carlsboro shop in Hockley Nottingham (all those years ago !!) giving advice and buying and selling musical instruments. With it being the main music shop in Nottingham at the time you would get to meet at some point most of the Nottinghamshires finest musicians and all the touring bands, I can still remember selling to ‘The Red hot Chilli Peppers’

You would be surprised at how many a times a parent has turned up for an initial meeting with their children regarding music lessons and have said “are you Jools from Carlsboro”

I have been a performer from the age of 15 when I used to go out gigging firstly with my brother and sister around the pubs and clubs in Nottingham, then I fronted various bands, even a punk band (pink hair as well) to working extensively on the club circuit in a duo with my husband whilst still always teaching.

I have also worked extensively within private day nurseries and infant schools doing music awareness and within the secondary school environment  as a music teacher/head of music.

I listen to and appreciates all genres of music but have a particular love for the Theatre, over the years I have seen a multitude of popular shows with my favourite being ‘Les Miserables’ (Alfie Boe is just fab) and ‘Miss Saigon’

My main objective when teaching students is to have fun, students should be totally relaxed and feel comfortable within the whole environment so they can enjoy their lesson. Music should be fun.
